Many writers face the challenge of maintaining a consistent tone throughout their poems, narratives, or short stories. Here are three tips from Writer’s Digest that will help ensure that the tone of your work is balanced.
- Find a section of your work that you are happy with then revisit this section as a guide for the rest of your work.
- Read pieces of writing that possess the tone that you are after, whether it’s from your previous writings or the writing of another author.
- At the completion of the writing try moving the most impactful sentences or lines near the beginning of you work for a strong opening, or towards the end for a strong conclusion to experiment with the overall tone.
