UrbSLAM 2013-2014 Season

The 2013-2014 UrbSLAM season begins August 30th. Cash prize is $50 for first place only. Poets no longer have to pay $5 to compete. The competition is free and open to all. Performances are audience judged. Poets are expected to follow Poetry Slam, Inc rules. There will be 8 slams this season and you must earn 10 points to qualify for the Final on Friday, April 25th, 2014. Four winning poets will compete in several slams throughout the summer of 2014: Southern Fried Slam in June, Rustbelt in June, several grudge match slams in July, and National Poetry Slam in August. The UrbSLAM champ will have an opportunity to compete in other competitions with the support of UAACD. The slam master is MK Stallings. He also serves as the host of UrbSLAM.

In addition to removing the entry fee for competition, UrbSLAM has a few other rule changes. Poet can only earn one point from participating in the Saint Louis Poetry Slam at the Focal Point on Wednesdays. Points will not be granted to poets competing in other slams in or out of the city. A “no repeat” rule will be enforced throughout the season. Poets cannot repeat any poems after performing it during a slam.  Doors open at 9:00 pm. The slam starts at 10 pm. Poets who qualify for the final can continue to compete. Below is the point breakdown for placing

  • First place = 4 points
  • Second place = 3 points
