This Could Easily Be Me In Memory of George Floyd

Full text below:

I watched a man get needlessly murdered the other day
and he looked like me.
He looked like my father…
He looked like my two teenage sons
and it broke my heart.
It broke my heart in a way that I didn’t think my heart could be broken.
I woke up this morning and cried in the shower as I pleaded with God for answers.
My heart is heavy today.
It is heavy with the weight of a sadness that can only be measured in sleepless nights and empty promises
THIS CAN EASILY BE ME
Let that sink in..
Let that sink in…
I fear leaving my children in the hands of the very ones that should help me protect them.
I fear that my sons who have never been in trouble with the law will be shot because they have dreads.
They are both college students, soft spoken and kind…
But I fear for their lives…
And it breaks my heart.  It breaks my heart in a way that I didn’t think my heart could be broken.
I am a citizen…
By way of immigration
Will that be my undoing?
I am a veteran…
Will that matter?
I drive a nice car… Sometimes through not so nice neighborhoods…
Will that be the reason for probable cause?
Let that sink in…
I watched a man get needlessly murdered the other day
and he looked like me.
Tonight I am wondering if one day it will be.
Let that sink in.
