The Search for the 2021 STL Youth Poet Laureate Begins Today.

(ST. LOUIS Tuesday, December 1, 2020) — UrbArts begins the search for the next St. Louis Youth Poet Laureate through its annual call for submissions. In previous years, the submission window remained open for a month. This year, youth poets have until December 18th to submit a 3-poem portfolio and resume highlighting their community service work. As in previous years, youth poets can submit video recordings — via YouTube links — in addition to their written work. Youth poets are also asked to write an additional poem on the theme of the organization’s latest art exhibition, Due Process Denied.

Sarah Abbas, Marquette High School senior, a rising star in poetry with her two national youth slam championships and work published online via Button Poetry’s YouTube channel is the current St. Louis Youth Poet Laureate.

Previous Youth Poets Laureate includes Bisa Adero, Grand Center Arts Academy graduate; Zack Lesmeister, Marquette High School graduate; Camryn Howe, Kirkwood High School graduate.

Interested youth poets can submit their work here for consideration.
