Statement from Aireez DaRychuss on UrbArts Opening

Let us be the bearers of light when times are most dark.  Let us, the artists, speak against injustices through our art, and formulate plans to inspire community transformation through our alliance.  For we are the writers of truth, painters of possibilities, and photographers of liberated screams. We are singers of redemption and musicians of hope. We dance joy and drum out sadness with the stomp of our convictions.

At this crucial time, let us plant our banner on the Northside of St. Louis City and raise it high. For on this day, we take one step closer to destiny. On this day, we expand our abilities to serve as a healing agent in one of this city’s most wounded communities.  We do this without fear because this is a community we are empowered to uplift.

Join us, as UrbArts opens our doors in Old North St. Louis.  We plan to contribute to the revitalization efforts within the neighborhood through community-building programs based arts and culture.  Visit to find out how you can actively participate in our ongoing efforts.

Aireez DaRychuss is the Board President of UrbArts.
