New Format for UrbPoetry

Call it water for poetry.

UrbPoetry is offering a new element in Legacy’s 14th year of Friday night poetry. After the DJ spins and the band plays, poets are invited to perform poems without a host introducing them. This is a shout-out to Legacy’s early days of Spoken Word Groove where the host would open the mic and let the poets spit with little moderation or interruption.  The first 10 poets will still have the opportunity to sign-up and enter the venue for free but they will have to the freedom to perform when they are ready. This is designed to help poets who aspire to improve their stage performance but who are not always given honest feedback from polite audiences.

Following the Water is a weekly feature from host and 2013 UrbSLAM champion Louis ConPhliction.  This explanation could go on but the  best way to understand this format change is to wade into the water.

The new format looks like this:

  • 9:00 pm: Doors open
  • 9-10: DJ spin/live music
  • 10-11: The Water
  • 11:00: Feature
  • 11:30: Louis ConPhliction
  • Midnight: It’s a wrap

UrbPoetry is every Friday night except for the final Friday, which is UrbSLAM.
