Help Us Sustain Brick City Poetry Festival & Other Urban Arts Programs

The late Dr. Michael Castro led the effort to create a poetry festival for the region as an outgrowth of his work as the inaugural Poet Laureate of Saint Louis. UrbArts will honor his legacy by continuing the work of bringing together the varied poetic communities in celebration of poetry. Brick City hosts the St. Louis Youth Poet Laureate ceremony, invites the US Poet Laureate, and produces a poetry slam.

From Youth Artist to UrbArts President & CEO

Before MK Stallings founded Urban Artist Alliance for Child Development (UrbArts) in 2001, he was a youth poet competing in slams.

Youth Centered Arts Organization

Since UrbArts began crafting arts programs for youth in the Juvenile Detention Center, we have served over 10,000 young people through workshops, coaching, panel discussions, performances, and lectures. Youth participating in our programs expect growth and to be challenged to reach their personal best. Equally as important as developing excellence is cultivating critical thought.

We are a charity focused on the growth of young people using art and community development as our method

Did you know donating $50 could transform a young poet into a nationally recognized champion? A donation of that amount makes it possible for a teacher coaching poetry slam to make space for a child to find their voice or funds a workshop with a teaching artist that benefits 10 youth. Donate here and support our urban arts organizing efforts.

Urban Artist Alliance for Child Development invites residents of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan area and beyond to join our effort of centering youth in arts-based community development by becoming a general member or artist member. Members do receive benefits but should join to improve the communities where we reside. Join here.

Saturday, September 28th at 6:00 pm, UrbArts will host our annual dinner this time recognizing the achievements or contributions to our organization and the St. Louis metro area. Tickets can be purchased here.
